Lenten Services at the OCC

On Wednesday, February 14, at 7:30pm we invite everyone to join us for our annual Ash Wednesday Worship Service as we enter the season of Lent together. The Ash Wednesday Service will be held in our memorial chapel in the center of our building. We will offer music, readings, prayers, the distribution of ashes, and Holy Communion. The theme of the service speaks of our ancient Christian heritage to observe the weeks before Easter as a time of self-reflection, spiritual growth, service and strengthening our identity in the mercy of Christ, the center of our faith fellowship. All are welcome.

Each year in Lent, churches offer special ways to observe Lent together. The word “lent” comes from the Latin word that means “To Lengthen” for in our Northern Hemisphere, our journey to Easter includes the lengthening of the light of day. Spring and new life is the goal of our Lenten journey. This year we will offer again our very popular “Lenten Coin Boxes and Daily Prayer Calendar” for our Lenten discipline. Each day in Lent, the forty days before Easter not including the Sundays, we will be encouraged to drop a coin in our decorated boxes and share a prayer together as our extended church family. After Easter, we will

collect the boxes and the children of the Sunday School will choose animals to send to families through Heifer International! The instruction forms will be available at worship and on our website!
