THE MUSIC PROGRAM AT OCC
MUSIC LOVERS, SOMETHING NEW, JUST FOR YOU!
Sunday’s After Worship:
For those of you who love to sing, but can’t commit to a weekly rehearsal, the monthly ‘Joyful Noise Pick-up choir’ is just for
you! Once a month, Marge and choir members will lead a rehearsal of a familiar hymn or simple anthem in the Fellowship
Hall after church. We will sing the following Sunday. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to raise your
voice in praise to God! Please note the name of the choir is not, the ‘Sing everything perfectly with great professionalism a
nd extreme knowledge of music reading and music theory’! We want this to be a fun, uplifting expression of sharing
our Faith! Our first ‘Joyful Noise’ rehearsal will be Sunday, September 23rd.
There are many opportunities to make music and to enjoy music at the Original Congregational Church. We look on a vigorous music program as an essential part of the religious life of the church. A full pipe organ and a piano are in the sanctuary, and these accompany our regular worship services. Instrumentalists are always welcome, and might perform in a service or a concert, or accompany one of the choirs. And of course we are always on the lookout for new singers, young or old, to join the choirs.
The Senior Choir leads worship every week, singing an anthem and sometimes an offertory or communion piece as well.
Music reading is preferred but not required. Rehearsals are on Thursday nights 7:30 – 9:00 p.m.

Christmas and Spring Concerts. These have become a great tradition. Sacred and secular music from all the choirs,
instrumentalists, and guests make these special. They are followed by a potluck supper in Fellowship Hall.
Special Music for Advent, Easter and Thanksgiving. Nearly every year the Senior Choir performs a cantata or other special music associated with Advent or Easter. We always invite other singers in the church, who are unable to sing in the choir full time, to join us for these special occasions. At Thanksgiving there is an Ecumenical service that circulates between the Original Congregational Church, Trinity Episcopal Church and St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The three choirs join voices to raise a mighty sound.
