Outreach
The Outreach Team is responsible for the wider mission of the church. They examine the mission work of the UCC and other agencies serving our community, nation, and world, and determine the church’s response to and encourage participation in selected mission programs.
During the month of May, One Great Hour of Sharing envelopes will be found in our pews for the annual Offering of the United Church of Christ to support Our Church’s Wider Mission (OCWM). This is one of the four special mission offerings of the United Church of Christ, also including Neighbors in Need, Strengthen the Church and The Christmas Fund. This special mission offering supports programs internationally for building sustainable communities, welcoming refugees and reconstructing lives following disasters. Working in more than 80 countries, this offering provides hope to people recovering from devastation and provides volunteer opportunities through the Partners in Service Program. The UCC works with international partners, and together provides support to health, education, refugee, agricultural and emergency relief initiatives. Last year OGHS donations continued to assist Haitians with earthquake relief but also began providing much overdue funds to the continent of Africa. In 2011, emergency preparedness training began in Southern Sudan and grants were funded for the assistance to the displaced people of Darfur and Sudan. When we contribute to this important outreach offering we are putting resources in place before disasters strike and provides our congregation the opportunity to immediately participate in supporting those in need of assistance. Please take an envelope during the month of May and support this special offering.
