Community Kids Club  Overview

C.K.C. at the O.C.C.!!!

Greetings and welcome to the Original Congregational Church Community Kids Club page!

Join the Community Kids Club today! Teach your child how to give back to the community while learning values in a faith based lesson plan. Each month we have a new service project. We also focus on new values each month and learn about how those values can help us connect to our community through service. Our weekly Sunday morning class sets up our service project and we teach faith based lessons that relate to the theme that month. We meet weekly on Sunday mornings and occasionally outside of our regular time as projects determine. Our weekly meeting time is 9:45 to 10:45 in the chapel at the OCC Church in Wrentham starting on September 15th until June 15th. We are hosting 2 kids carnivals where you can come learn more about the program and enroll. These will be held in Fellowship Hall at the OCC in Wrentham. The entrance is located through the back parking lot door. The dates of these carnivals are August 25th & September 8th from 10am – 12pm. There is no cost for the program, this is free to the public. If you wish to make a donation to the church we can use these funds in the future for more service projects and community club support. During this year we will support the following organizations through local drives and hands on volunteer opportunities; The Wrentham & Franklin Food Banks, ABCD Boston, Cradles to Crayons, Medway House, The Kitchen Elves, Veterans of North Attleboro, Toys for Tots, Impact Backpack & many more!

FAQ’s:

What is Community Kids Club?

We are a faith based club that focuses on hands-on service projects. We believe that kids learn best through doing. We teach values through giving back to our community. We will host several drives for food, clothing, and other supplies to support these organizations. Learning through doing is the best experience for our kids because they get to feel pride & accomplishment while gaining confidence and real world experience.

What does faith based mean?

We are a church! The best way to teach values is to provide examples from Bible stories and scripture. We focus on specific values each month and our lessons and activities are centered around teaching those values.

What do we have to do?

Be an active member! Make a commitment to attend frequently so your child doesn’t miss out on service projects. This program is free to join! We meet Sunday mornings at 9:45 in the children’s chapel. We gather our classes, share a prayer where the kids can volunteer prayer requests. We will talk about our lesson, activity, value of the month, discuss our service project,  sing a song and exit to our classrooms. Pickup is around 10:45 in the downstairs classrooms. Grab a cookie and some juice or coffee for the adults in fellowship hall on your way out.

We will also have volunteer days where we are sorting donations or touring the food pantry or other service projects outside of our weekly meeting time. Volunteer days will be about once a month for a couple hours.

What does it cost?

The Community Kids Club is free! You can choose to donate items for the service project we are working on that month. You can volunteer as a parent helper. We also welcome monetary donations to help support the future of this club. Feel free to donate on our website and please make a note that it’s for the Community Kids Club so we know where to allocate the funds.

What is the parents’ role?

You can be as involved as you want! We always need volunteers for our regular meeting days and for volunteer days. If you want to drop off and pick up after you can do that or you can stay for the church service and pick up after.  We always can use a helping hand, and your child will benefit from you being a part of this experience with them!

What age is this for?

All ages! Birth to High school, we have a place for you! For kids under 3 we have a nursery classroom. Kindergarten through elementary grades are grouped and divided as necessary. Middle & High school play different roles in teaching younger kids and also having their own meeting times to work on projects at a higher level. We have youth groups for middle and high school. The older kids take on more leadership and decision making in deciding what charities we partner with and how we support those and collect donations.

What else should I know?

We will offer participation in church service throughout the year. We organize a Christmas Eve pageant and holiday songs occasionally. Participation is not required but encouraged! A great way for kids to experience public speaking or just being in front of a crowd. Many actors and professional singers discover their talent through church participation. Maybe they’ll learn that they love drama or music!

How often do I have to come?

The Community Kids Club runs from 9/15/24 to 6/8/25. We will have a summer project benefiting Impact Backpack where we will sort donations in the first week of August. We also host a registration carnival on August 25th and September 8th where you can come to play games and learn more about the CKC and sign up for the new year.

We ask that you can commit to coming regularly. Popping in and out throughout the year doesn’t provide the same impact of being involved consistently to start and finish service projects. We understand that sports and other commitments happen but making your best effort to be consistently involved is the best experience for all the kids involved. Being a cohesive group focused on achieving these service goals takes commitment but the reward is so worth it!
